In 1834 the locality called Slab Hollow, Martin's Mills and New Boston was named Jacksonville, in honor of president Jackson and thereupon the post office at Point Pleasant assumed the name of Jacksonville through the Management of Saxton Plumb who was seeking to again become postmaster.
